Instrument & Band Recording
Located in the Minatomirai district of Yokohama, Berungrid provides a dedicated recording environment designed to capture the authentic character of band ensembles and solo instruments. From high-energy dynamic sessions to delicate acoustic performances, our engineers design precise microphone placements to capture the core of your music.
In instrument recording, the primary focus is how to capture the interaction between the sound source and the surrounding space. Our live room is part of a 120m² facility specifically engineered with professional acoustic treatment. This setup allows us to minimize unwanted reflections while preserving the rich harmonic overtones inherent to the instruments.
We view our role as providing more than just a physical space. Our team, led by the chief engineer, employs a musical approach to technical recording. By utilizing tube microphones and near-field monitors, we build a signal chain that adds warmth and depth, ensuring the raw tracks are high-quality sources ready for the mixing stage.
The 4-Step Recording Process
Pre-Session Planning
Before the session, we review your song structures, the list of instruments, and the desired sonic direction. We develop a microphone plot based on your specific ensemble configuration.
Setup and Soundcheck
We arrange the instruments and position the microphones. Through a detailed rehearsal, we verify volume balances and ensure phase coherence across all captured signals.
Tracking (Main Recording)
Our engineers manage the levels and signal flow throughout the session. For ensemble recordings, we focus on capturing the natural timing and breath of the musicians.
Data Export and Review
We organize the multitrack data and review the takes with the client. If requested, we create a rough monitor mix on the spot to confirm the session's direction.
Who This Service Is For
Our instrument and band recording service is suited for artists who value the "air" and natural ambiance of a physical space. This includes indie rock bands seeking an ensemble feel, jazz combos, or soloists recording orchestral instruments where the room's acoustics are a critical component of the composition.
It is also a practical solution for recordings that are difficult to achieve in home studios, such as high-volume drum tracking. With a live room capable of accommodating up to 6 musicians simultaneously, we allow members to perform together in the same space, preserving the organic groove of the band.
Studio Workflow
A typical session begins with the load-in of instruments. The engineer assesses the specific characteristics of each instrument to select the appropriate microphone. The use of tube microphones helps mitigate the perceived hardness of digital recording, adding an analog-like texture to the sound.
During the session, there is constant communication between the control room and the live room. We repeat takes until the performance meets the artist's requirements. The engineer monitors dynamics and tonal shifts in real-time to ensure the performance is recorded accurately.
Client Preparation
To ensure a productive session, we ask clients to prepare several items. Please provide demo recordings or lead sheets (scores) for the tracks. This allows the engineer to simulate microphone placements and signal routing before you arrive.
Additionally, ensure all instrument maintenance—such as changing strings or preparing reeds—is completed beforehand. Minimizing setup time within the studio hours allows for more takes and a higher quality final product.
Deliverables and Output
Upon completion of the recording, data is provided in high-resolution WAV format (48kHz/24bit or higher). We provide the following files:
- Individual tracks for each instrument (Multitrack data)
- Grouped files for each section (Stem data)
- A rough monitor mix with basic balance adjustments
These files are delivered in a format that allows for flexible editing during the mixing stage, ensuring a smooth transition whether you use our services or an external engineer.
Timeline and Scheduling
The primary delivery of recording data typically occurs within 3 business days following the session. This time is used for data organization, backup verification, and secure transfer.
Urgent requests can be discussed during the booking process. However, a minimum processing time is required to ensure data integrity. For specific scheduling inquiries, please use our contact form.
What Is Not Included
This service focuses specifically on "Tracking." Therefore, the following are not included in the standard recording rate:
- Detailed pitch correction or timing edits (Editing)
- Professional mixing and mastering (See our Mixing & Mastering plan)
- Instrument rentals (excluding basic studio equipment)
- Compositional guidance or arrangement services
Pricing and VAT
To maintain transparency, our pricing is displayed with the 10% Japanese consumption tax (VAT) clearly separated. The "Standard Rate" includes both the studio facility fee and the engineer's technical fee.
For B2B clients requesting invoice payments, we set a payment term of 14 days. A deposit of 30% of the total amount is required to confirm the booking. For detailed regulations, please refer to our Terms and Conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you record drums?
Yes. Our live room has sufficient space and is equipped with a dedicated drum microphone set. We propose a microphone configuration (kick, snare, overheads, etc.) based on the genre of your music.
Can I bring my own tracks and only record additional parts?
Yes. Please inform us of the format (sample rate and bit depth) of your existing data. We will overdub the necessary parts while maintaining consistency with the original tracks.
Do you offer editing services like pitch correction after recording?
This is not included in the standard recording plan but is available as an option. Additional fees apply depending on the amount of editing required. Please discuss this with the engineer during your session.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made up to 3 days before the session are free of charge. Cancellations made after this period will incur a fee according to our regulations. Please check the Terms and Conditions for details.
